Integra Foundation Awards Grant to Neuroscience Nursing Foundation

PLAINSBORO, N.J., Mar 28, 2008 (PrimeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- The Integra Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Integra LifeSciences Corporation (Nasdaq:IART), has awarded a $25,000 grant to the Neuroscience Nursing Foundation (NNF) in support of three key programs - 1) Travel Grants, which assist neuroscience nurses in attending the annual meeting of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses; 2) Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurses Recertification Grants; and 3) NNF Research Grants, which support research projects that evaluate new modes of therapy, contribute to the scientific knowledge base of neuroscience nursing, and contribute to the quality of patient care.

"We are grateful to the Integra Foundation for its ongoing support of our programs. As the only foundation dedicated to development of neuroscience nursing research and education, we provide unique support that has proved invaluable to the advancement of our specialty's science and to individual neuroscience nurses," said Tess Sierzant, President of the Neuroscience Nursing Foundation. "It is clear our organizations have complementary visions for optimal care of the patient impacted by neurological trauma and illness."

Neuroscience nursing is a unique area within the nursing discipline, specializing in the care of individuals across the lifespan who are affected by nervous system dysfunction such as stroke, brain and spinal cord tumors and trauma, back pain, epilepsy, and neurodegenerative disorders. Founded in 1993, NNF was established to promote professional growth and research within the field to advance the quality of care for people affected by these disorders, to educate the general public, and to promote a better understanding of neuroscience issues within the medical and lay communities.

"Nurses are a vital part of our healthcare system and we are pleased to continue to support the NNF's educational efforts," said Gianna Sabella, Executive Director of the Integra Foundation.

The Integra Foundation is dedicated to advancing innovative medical and healthcare research and education, primarily in the areas of neurosurgery, reconstructive and general surgery, that lead to improved outcome and quality of life for patients and their communities. It is funded by Integra LifeSciences Corporation, a leader in developing and marketing high quality surgical instruments, as well as innovative devices and bio-products, for use in neurosurgery, reconstructive and general surgery and soft tissue repair.
