Integra NeuroSciences™ Launches MAYFIELD® Infinity Support System
PLAINSBORO, N.J., Oct. 19, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Integra LifeSciences Holdings Corporation (Nasdaq:IART) today announced plans to market and sell the MAYFIELD® Infinity Support System in the United States through its Integra NeuroSciences™ sales force. The new MAYFIELD Infinity Support System is a head support system that provides a unique method for simultaneous application of a head support (adult, pediatric, or general purpose) and a skull clamp (ages 5+) during delicate neurosurgical procedures requiring both devices. The Integra NeuroSciences direct sales force will market and sell the MAYFIELD Infinity Support System to neurosurgeons who specialize in neuro-trauma and pediatric neurosurgery.
The MAYFIELD Infinity Support System is the first system designed for the application of both head support and a skull clamp. It was created for use with patients who cannot safely withstand the clamping forces exerted on the head by a skull clamp alone. It is an adjunct to the MAYFIELD® Skull Clamp Systems already used by hospitals performing neurosurgical procedures. The new system supports the static weight of the head on a horseshoe or general-purpose headrest, while allowing for the simultaneous application of a skull clamp (ages 5+) to prevent movement during surgical procedures. This is especially important for young patients (ages 5+) without solid cranial sutures and trauma patients who may have sustained fractures.
"We designed the MAYFIELD Infinity Support System after consultation with many neurosurgeons in the United States," said Jim McCafferty, Vice President of Marketing for the MAYFIELD® product line. "This system provides an example of our ability to continually advance the MAYFIELD product line, which has been used by neurosurgeons for over thirty years, to meet patient care needs."
The MAYFIELD Infinity System is comprised of a coupler, which connects the system to the MAYFIELD® base unit, two horseshoe headrests (adult and pediatric sizes), and a general purpose headrest with interchangeable mini gel pads. The system features numerous adjustment mechanisms that neurosurgeons can use to position the patient's head as desired, including controls for vertical and lateral adjustments, and a ball and socket mechanism to enable a tilt in any axis.
The MAYFIELD product line is highly regarded for enhancing surgeon effectiveness and patient safety and leads the market in intraoperative cranial stabilization, which we estimate to be a $20 million market worldwide. Integra LifeSciences Corporation acquired the MAYFIELD product line in May 2004.
